LOCAL CHEFS JOIN NEW HAVEN SCHOOLS TO ENCOURAGE HEALTHY BEHAVIORS
District Launches Two Health Initiatives to Improve Health
and Target Childhood Obesity
What: New Haven Public Schools will launch two health initiatives today, Health Heroes and Chefs Move to School, in their ongoing effort to address health issues, particularly childhood obesity. Health Heroes is a social marketing campaign intended to inspire students and their families to adopt lifelong healthy behaviors. The District is partnering with Yale School of Public Health’s CARE program to implement the campaign. Chefs Move to Schools is an outcropping of Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign to fight childhood obesity. The program is run through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and will help chefs around the country partner with schools in their community to create healthy meals and teach children about good food choices. Local chefs will be on hand doing food demonstrations for the students using fresh fruits and vegetables.
