COLUMBUS FAMILY ACADEMY STUDENTS GEAR UP FOR BREAKFAST!
Nutrition education and healthy breakfast chef demo for the students

NEW HAVEN, CT – Students at Columbus Family Academy will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast! Registered dietitian, Sarah Maver, and dietetic intern, Julie Osterhout, will be visiting with the 2nd grade class tomorrow, March 27, 2012 at 10:00am. Students will learn about the importance of eating a healthful breakfast every day, as well as what foods should be included and limited as part of a healthful breakfast.

Chef Timothy Cipriano, Executive Director of Food Services for New Haven Public Schools, will demonstrate how to build a healthy breakfast utilizing cereal, fruits, and yogurt.

“While these students are served a free, healthy breakfast in school every morning, we hope to get them excited about eating a healthy breakfast every day, not just on the days they eat at school,” says Sarah Maver, School Wellness Dietitian for New Haven Public Schools. “We strive to teach our students healthy decision making throughout our nutrition education programs offered in our classrooms and cafeterias.”

Maver is a Kids Eat Right Campaign Volunteer. Kids Eat Right is a platform designed to ensure that sound nutrition recommendations are part of childhood obesity prevention. A member-driven public education campaign, Kids Eat Right mobilizes the Academy’s more than 72, 000 members to support families, schools, and communities in their pursuit of quality nutrition for all children. Registered dietitians are the food and nutrition experts and the most qualified professionals to bring families and communities along in the quest to help Kids Eat Right.
