Calling all Chefs
& Restaurateurs! We need you at the Capitol on May 21st!
There will be
a rally for the labeling of our GMO Bill outside the capitol building in
Hartford on Tuesday May 21st at 11:00AM.
With
only 5 weeks left of the legislative session, we are in the home stretch.
Please join us at the Capitol on Tuesday, May 21st, from 11a-1p as we stand together to
demand our right to know what is in our food. Please meet on the north side of
the Capitol building (the side facing Bushnell Park) at 11:00am. We will
join together to send a strong message to our legislators that we want the
right to know what is in our food now.
After
the rally, we will be joined by legislators for a GMO free food tasting.
There will be delicious food thanks to our generous CT farms, chefs and
businesses. Our hope is that we will have a wide variety of businesses, chefs,
restaurants, and farms participating who support our right to know what is in
our food to provide a tasting – or just be there! The tasting would
ideally be GMO Free, but as long as the participating business supports our
right to know, that is what really matters. We can expect around 200 people at
a minimum to come through. The samples of food can be very small.
It is our hope that those who participate will be able to express to
legislators as they come through why labeling is so important. For
example, it is important for restaurants to be able to inform their customers
if a product contains GMOs, but without labeling, that would be impossible.
This is also a perfect opportunity to meet legislators face to face and ask them to support HB 6519 and HB 6527. Handouts will be provided.
We
need you to be there and to bring your friends. For flyer go to http://gmofreect.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/2013_04_29_rally_posterv3_FINAL.pdf
Thank
you for all you are doing to ensure that GMO labeling in CT will become a
reality.
We
at GMO Free CT look forward to being with all our fellow GMO labeling warriors
on the 21st.
Immediately following the rally we will begin a food tasting. This is where we hope you can help.
Please spread
the word, this will be the last big event before the bill is voted on and we
need to make a big splash. Please let me know if you come across anyone
willing to participate.
Please respond to Tara Cook-Littman (taracook.littman@gmail.com)
