The Food & Nutrition Service Division of the USDA releases reimbursement rates for National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and Afterschool Snacks.
The official rate is an increase of 1.1%. The new free lunch will be $2.74, reduced is $2.34. The new free breakfast rate is $1.76, reduced is $1.46.
While it is nice to see an increase instead of a decrease it is still not enough to make a difference. All our costs continue to rise as well and a 1.1% increase is paltry in comparison to what school nutrition needs to effectively make a difference in the lives of children.
