First Day of School

Yesterday was the first day of school and we successfully fed every student a well balanced meal. The meal of the day consisted of Whole Grain Cheese Pizza, Fresh Garden Salad, Fresh fruit, 100% juice and milk.

I visited several schools and saw veggie pizzas being not only offerred to the children but CONSUMED by the children. Who says kids don't eat veggies??? These pizzas even had ONIONS on them and the kids were asking for the slices with the onions.

There is a great reason why...BECAUSE the pizzas were cooked properly and looked great! My staff is stepping up to the plate again this year to serve delicious, healthy food that taste's and looks great!

I received an email from a parent noting how her son normally doesn't eat the salad in school but he did yesterday because it looked appetizing! That is the best compliment I can receive; when a child tells his mom that the vegetables at school look good, I know we are doing the right thing!

Today we menu'd a white meat chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, YUMMY! New menu items include Sound School's Pesto Chicken Pasta Primavera made with basil that the Sound School students grew and harvested; turkey pot roast with fresh stuffing and Southwestern Chicken Salad with Black Bean Salsa.

The week of September 27th NH School Food is celebrating the CT Farm to Chef Harvest Celebration Week; stay tuned for more details!
